Why will love this coconut matcha latte recipe
You are going to love the creaminess of this latte recipe.
Not only is it made with matcha powder, but it is also made with coconut milk that adds another layer of flavor and cream to an already delicious tea latte.
If you are dairy-free, this recipe is for you! Creaminess without the dairy, oh and it’s vegan!
Ingredients

Our main ingredient in this tea from which we derive the flavor and the color, is matcha powder.
What exactly is matcha?
Matcha is a form of green tea that originated in China but is now mainly produced in Japan.
Matcha is special and more nutrient dense than green tea since the entire leaves are ground up then whisked into the tea.
When it comes to standard green tea, the leaves are steeped after they have been dried, but they are not ground up, then they are removed from the tea after steeping.
The ground leaves of matcha are a fine powder and they stay in the drink without being removed, that is why when consuming matcha tea, you will get more nutrients out of it.
For this recipe, you may prefer to use lite coconut milk, and that is fine, but I recommend using full fat coconut milk.
It will give a much MUCH creamier texture to our latte and a more heightened coconut flavor.
If you end up using lite coconut milk, add it in with a 1:1 ratio of coconut milk to water. Since I am using creamy full-fat coconut milk, I’m adding ¼ cup of coconut milk and ¾ cup of water.
These are the ingredients for this coconut matcha latte recipe (only 4 ingredients!):
- Coconut milk (full-fat)
- Water
- Matcha powder
- Honey
How to make matcha latte with coconut milk
We are going to begin by preparing the coconut milk from the can.
When you buy full-fat coconut milk, it is usually separated so that the thick fat is at the top of the can and the thinner milky part is at the bottom.
You can shake the can all you want before opening it, but it usually does not mix together no matter how much you shake that can (I’m speaking from my own experience).
Go ahead and open the can and pour (scoop) the contents into a small mixing bowl. Mix it together with a spoon or a whisk until it is homogenized and smooth.
Measure out ¼ cup (or more if you like it even creamier) and heat it up in the microwave until warm.

Measure out the matcha powder into a serving mug, breaking any clumps up so that no lumps remain.
In a small saucepan, heat ¾ cup of water up until very hot and steaming.
Pour a small amount of hot water into the mug with the matcha powder and using a milk frother or whisk, whisk it together until smooth.

I much prefer to use a milk frother in this recipe. The texture comes out like a wonderful latte if you use one and the matcha gets completely incorporated.
You can do this with a whisk, but it is a lot of work, and your arm might get tired.
Add the rest of the water, the warm coconut milk and honey. Froth again with the frother. Serve it hot and enjoy!

Variations
This matcha latte with coconut milk can also be served iced. Prepare it according to the directions, only don’t heat the water up as much.
After you are done frothing it, pour it over ice and serve.

FAQ’s
How to make matcha taste better?
Any natural sweetener usually does the trick! Add some honey or maple syrup to your matcha tea to cut through the umami flavor of the matcha.
What does matcha taste like?
Matcha tea has a strong, almost bitter and earthy flavor to it. There are hints of umami that usually start out strong with your first sip, but by the end it goes down smoothly.
Why does my matcha taste fishy?
If your matcha tastes fishy, it is most likely due to the poor quality of it.
It is worth it to spend a few more bucks to purchase a tried and tested matcha that tastes better, rather than a cheap version of matcha that tastes bad.
