Why you will love this Cardamom Rose Latte Recipe

This recipe for cardamom rose latte will make you feel like you are traveling the world!

Whenever I drink this special latte, I imagine myself sipping it at some imaginary sidewalk café in Istanbul, Turkey. I don’t know why!

I’ve never even been there. But if you have the itch to travel, sometimes you just need a unique recipe to feel like you are traveling in some sense, even if it is just in taste.

The cardamom and rose really kick this latte recipe up a notch and they add a richness to it that makes you feel like you are indulging in a rare delicacy.

The combination of those 2 flavors also bring a sense of calm and relaxation that is good for the soul. I promise, you are going to LOVE this recipe!

    Tips

The flavor lies in the quality of your ingredients for this recipe! Buy quality coffee, and quality spices for the best results.

    Ingredients

Let’s carve out a few moments to discuss the specialty ingredients that you need for this rose cardamom latte, and let’s start with the cardamom first.

You have two options when purchasing cardamom from the store. You can either buy ground cardamom or cardamom pods from the store.

You are not going to want ground cardamom for this recipe, but rather cardamom pods. There are 2 different types of cardamom pods, black cardamom and green cardamom.

You DO NOT want black cardamom, please buy green cardamom pods!

Black cardamom has a smokey flavor to it, and that is not what we want in our cardamom latte, so please buy green. I purchase cardamom at my local Middle Eastern store.

It tends to be less expensive there than buying it at a large chain grocery store, and I know I will find it there along with rose water.

Rose water is one of those unique Middle Eastern ingredients that is used in coffee and desserts. Rose water is typically used in Middle Eastern desserts and pastries like this authentic Lebanese Baklava recipe.

It brings a floral essence to a variety of recipes and a very unique twist to coffee.

Yet again, you will need to make a trip to your local Mediterranean/Middle Eastern store in order to find culinary rose water there.

The ingredients for cardamom rose latte are:

    • 1 shot espresso or strong brewed coffee
    • Whole milk
    • Green cardamom pods
    • Rose water
    • Honey or sugar
    • Vanilla extract
    • Rose pedals for presentation (optional)

How to make rose cardamom latte

Typically, when it comes to lattes, the ratio requires much more steamed milk than coffee. It will be no different for this latte as well.

Our main ingredient will be the flavor infused frothed milk. Before we get into the recipe, you do need a way to froth your milk.

Either you need to have a fancy frother machine or just a handheld milk frother. I have just a cheap battery operated handheld milk frother, and as long as the milk is hot, it works great!

Brew one shot of espresso or very strong coffee.

Measure out ¾ cup of whole milk into a small saucepan. Take 2 green cardamom pods and slightly crush them, in order to release the oils and flavor.

Add the crushed cardamom pods into the milk and also ¼ teaspoon of the rose water.

Turn the stove on low-medium heat and heat up the milk until it steams, but DO NOT BOIL!

As soon as it gets hot enough to steam, remove it from the heat and filter out the cardamom pods.

Pour the hot milk into a large coffee mug and add your sweetener of choice (honey or sugar) and a few drops of vanilla extract.

Take your handheld milk frother and submerge it into the hot infused milk and turn it on. Your milk will begin to froth and will nearly double in volume.

Once it’s nice and foamy, turn off the frother and remove it. Make sure it is off before lifting it up, otherwise you will fling frothy milk everywhere (we’ve all done it).

Pour the brewed shot of espresso into the frothed milk and garnish with rose pedals if you so desire.

Serve and enjoy the deep relaxation this latte will bring!

    Serving Suggestions

Lattes can either be served hot or iced. I prefer this latte to be hot, but if you want to ice it you may.

The presentation of this drink is delightful to the eyes if you garnish the top with a few rose pedals.

    Substitutions

Any other milk can be substituted into this recipe, even dairy free milk like oat milk. I personally love to use half and half to make it even more rich.

    FAQ’s

Does cardamom go well in coffee?

Well YES! In fact, it is common in some Middle Eastern countries to add cardamom to coffee.

    What does cardamom taste like?

Cardamom has slight hints of eucalyptus flavors and peppery notes to it. It is typically a very strong spice and a little goes a long way.

What is rose flavor made of?

Rose flavoring, or rose water, is made by steeping rose pedals in water, then filtering out the pedals. It has a strong floral flavor and aroma to it.
