Burrata caprese salad consists of fresh tomatoes, basil, balsamic vinegar and deliciously creamy burrata cheese. This caprese salad recipe is different from others (and better IMO) since it uses fresh burrata cheese as opposed to mozzarella.

Italian Burrata Salad, caprese salad burrata

If you came for an easy tomato salad recipe, you came to the right one! I LOVE this salad and you will too! It's super fresh, between the tomatoes, basil and fresh cheese. It really is a delightfully simple recipe that's perfect for Spring and Summer.

I love this because it's simple, yet it is a spin on the classic caprese salad.

    Burrata Cheese

This is not the first time I have written about real burrata Italiana. I think it is my new favorite cheese. Burrata is a very creamy and mild tasting cheese that is wrapped in a layer of fresh mozzarella. It comes in the form of a ball and is submerged in water, in order to not dry out.

Preparing burrata cheese is rather easy. Burrata is always served warm or at room temperature. In order to serve it so, you must soak the burrata ball in warm water for 10 minutes, or until you bring it up to room temperature.

After the burrata cheese is at the proper temperature, just take 2 forks, or your fingers and pull it open. Inside you will find all of the wonderful creamy burrata cheese. It's really a very spreadable cheese and is perfect for a charcuterie board and other appetizer dishes.

A while ago, I wrote a different article and recipe for burrata cheese that was absolutely divine and you can find it here --->> Burrata Bruschetta

    🍅 Ingredients

The ingredients for this burrata and tomato salad are:

    • Burrata Cheese
    • Heirloom or beefsteak tomatoes
    • Multi-colored cherry tomatoes
    • Fresh basil leaves
    • Balsamic vinegar
    • Fresh cracked pepper
    • Kosher salt

The ingredients for this burrata caprese recipe are quite straight forward and easy to find. Your local grocery store should have burrata cheese in the gourmet cheese section.

    🔪 Instructions

How to make burrata caprese salad:

Go ahead and begin the process of bringing your burrata cheese to room temperature. I outlined it above, but all you need to do is soak it in warm water for 10 minutes or so.

As I said before, this caprese with burrata is as easy as it gets! Take your heirloom tomatoes (beefsteak tomatoes work fine also) and slice them. If you like your slices thick that is fine, it's really whatever you prefer. In general, caprese salad usually does have thicker slices of tomatoes.

On a charcuterie board or nice serving platter, arrange your tomato slices. If you want to make this dish a little prettier, add some colorful cherry tomato halves or quarters. Take your fresh basil leaves (washed) and layer them throughout. On the serving platter go ahead and put the burrata cheese and break it open.

Inside you will see all of that creamy fresh cheese. Take a peppermill and put some fresh ground black pepper over the top of the burrata cheese and on the tomatoes. Sprinkle the salad with salt and drizzle balsamic vinegar over the top.

If you are not a balsamic vinegar fan, you can always add some good quality olive oil instead, and make sure to put some on the burrata cheese as well.

Just look at how creamy that burrata is... YUM!

    🥗 Serving suggestions

    How to eat caprese salad:

Caprese salad can be served as an appetizer with crostini, or it can be eaten as is with a fork and a knife. It can be a stand alone salad for a lunch, or it can be served alongside a large main dish or grilled meat.

Caprese is best served cold or at room temperature (the burrata needs to be room temp).
