Beer Steamed Mussels

Ingredients
  

  • 4 pounds fresh mussels* cleaned
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 shallot finely chopped
  • 1 ½ cups light beer
  • ¼ cup fresh parsley chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions
 

  • Clean and debeard mussels, discarding any that are open and don't close when tapped.
  • In a large pot, melt butter over medium heat. Add garlic and shallots, cook until fragrant.
  • Pour in beer and bring to a simmer.
  • Add mussels, cover, and cook for 5-7 minutes until the mussels open.
  • Remove from heat, discard any unopened mussels.
  • Stir in parsley, salt, and pepper.
  • Serve hot with crusty bread.

Notes

Always make sure mussels are fresh and alive before cooking for safety.
