    Jump to Recipe Pin Recipe

I'm obsessed with mezcal sours lately. They're such a refreshing way to enjoy mezcal's smoky flavor. And so easy to make - just 4 ingredients and 5 minutes!

If you like whiskey or bourbon sours, you've got to try this mezcal version. It's got that perfect balance of smoky, sweet, and tar

Mezcal, a spirit made from agave, brings a unique smoky taste to this drink. When mixed with fresh lime juice and a touch of sweetness, it creates a perfectly balanced cocktail. The egg white adds a silky texture and a beautiful frothy top.

This drink is perfect for happy hour, Cinco de Mayo, or anytime you're craving something refreshing. I make these year-round - they're light enough for summer but the smokiness feels cozy in winter too.

Why You'll Love This Mezcal Sour Cocktail

You'll fall in love with this Mezcal Sour Cocktail for many reasons. First, it's a unique twist on a classic that will impress your friends and family.

The smoky flavor of mezcal adds depth to the drink, making it stand out from other cocktails. It's also easy to make, requiring just a few ingredients and simple techniques.

This cocktail is versatile too. You can adjust the sweetness to your liking, making it perfect for any palate.

    Tips

When making a Mezcal Sour, always use fresh lime juice. The bottled stuff just doesn't compare and can make your drink taste artificial.

Don't skip the egg white – it's key for that silky texture and frothy top. If you're worried about raw egg, you can use pasteurized egg whites from a carton.

Lastly, make sure to shake the cocktail vigorously. This helps blend the ingredients and creates that lovely foam on top.

    The Ingredients

    Mezcal

Mezcal is the star of this show. It's a smoky spirit made from agave, similar to tequila but with a more complex flavor. Choose a good quality mezcal for the best results.

    Lime Juice

Fresh lime juice adds brightness and acidity to balance the smoky mezcal. Always use freshly squeezed for the best flavor.

    Simple Syrup

Simple syrup sweetens the drink and balances the tart lime juice. You can make your own by dissolving equal parts sugar and water.

    Egg White

Egg white gives the cocktail a silky texture and creates a beautiful foam on top. It also helps blend the flavors together.

How to Make Mezcal Sour Cocktail

    Prepare Your Ingredients

Gather all your ingredients and tools. Squeeze your lime juice and measure out your mezcal, simple syrup, and separate your egg white.

    Combine and Dry Shake

Add all ingredients to your shaker without ice. Shake vigorously for about 10-15 seconds. This helps emulsify the egg white.

    Add Ice and Shake Again

Add ice to your shaker and shake again for another 10-15 seconds. This chills the drink and further combines the ingredients.

    Strain and Serve

Strain the cocktail into a chilled glass. You can garnish with a lime wheel or a few drops of bitters on top of the foam.

What to Serve With Mezcal Sour Cocktail

    • Grilled corn on the cob with chili and lime
    • Spicy nuts or olives
    • Guacamole and tortilla chips
    • Grilled shrimp skewers

    Substitutions

    • Use aquafaba instead of egg white for a vegan version
    • Try agave syrup instead of simple syrup
    • Experiment with different citrus juices like grapefruit or orange
