Absolutely one of my favorite things to order at my local Middle Eastern restaurant is a falafel sandwich. I do make falafels at home, but sometimes it's just easier to get it out, especially since I do have many Middle Eastern and Lebanese restaurants in my area. However a falafel sandwich is not complete without that creamy lemon tahini sauce!

The key ingredient in any falafel sandwich is the tahini and lemon sauce. Please see my note below on the best tahini to use. If you like to cook, I believe it is always very important to use high quality ingredients!
What is tahini paste?
Before I get into the recipe for tahini sauce for falafels, I need to answer the pertinent question of what is tahini? Tahini is a traditional Middle Eastern ingredient used in many different dishes from authentic hummus, to baba ganoush, to dressings and dipping sauces. It is made from ground sesame seeds that have been toasted and hulled. The sesame seeds are ground into a paste. The tahini paste does separate and needs to be mixed before each use. There will be oil on top and a thick sesame paste at the bottom. Always mix and combine before measuring and using.
Where to buy tahini?
If you have a local Mediterranean or Middle Eastern store, I recommend you buy it from there. If you do not have a store near you, check out this tahini from Amazon. This is the brand that I use, it is Lebanese Tahini and is high quality. I do not recommend buying any brand tahini you may find at your chain grocery store. Lebanese tahini is quality, affordable and has a long fridge life.

🥙 Serving suggestions
What to eat with creamy tahini sauce:
First and foremost, this simple tahini sauce recipe is made for falafel wraps. Anytime you have falafels, this easy tahini sauce goes with it, whether it is on a salad, as a sandwich or in a rice bowl (like my yummy shawarma bowls). It makes a wonderful salad dressing and it can also be served with kofta kebabs, shawarma and arayes as well. This is also the best dressing for buddha bowls.
